Pure Speculation: Ryan Madson

Without regard for statistical analysis, The Bandanna will predict the performances of each Phillies player for the entire season.  Based entirely on guesswork, and intuition, here are my thoughts on upcoming season for:

Ryan Madson DOB: Aug 28 1980 T: Right B: Left H: 6'6" W: 200

Madson has evolved into one of the better relievers in the league.  I love his stuff, and wish I called pitches for him.  While I started the Bandanna behind the idea that Kyle Drabek should be the Phillies closer of the future, I am content now to have MadDog close out some games if Lidge poos the bed again.

I will guarantee off the bat he gets 5 wins and 10 saves this year...lock of the year...I would say more saves, but I think he will go down with some sort of shoulder strain for a week or two this season, opening up some fantasy value for Danys Baez...Madson's ERA is also going to be strong, as it has been for the previous 3 years, I feel 3.20 will be reasonable...he's a September arm, with power stuff, so I hope my first two predicts are correct, and I hope this last one isn't...65 appearences seems rights, considering he has approached 80 the last two years.

Great Baseball Names

Today's great baseball name:  Spud Chandler.

Pure Speculation: Brad Lidge

Without regard for statistical analysis, The Bandanna will predict the performances of each Phillies player for the entire season.  Based entirely on guesswork, and intuition, here are my thoughts on upcoming season for:

Brad Lidge DOB: Dec. 23th, 1976 T: Right B: Right H: 6'5" W: 215

Welllll, that was an awful year last season.  Lidge had perhaps the worst season a closer could have, and for right now, we have no clue if that's just because of injuries or a lack of confidence.  If he was hurting last season, well, perhaps he will rebound in '10.  But his career has been one of ups and downs, so maybe his perfect season was the mountaintop.

Hmm, let's see.  There's no shot he gets to 31 saves this season.  I just don't believe he will be healthy and effective to put up 31, thought he somehow managed that last season.  I think he's got a shorter rope this year, but I also think he will be better (how could he not?).  I think 28 saves next year, the majority coming in the second half...And that ERA of 7.21?  That's going to fall too, right around 4.40...which really isn't that good for a closer, but we got to take what we can get...and since relievers don't rack up the innings, we will go by appearences, and I think Lidge will only show up around 45-50 games next year....because our offense will be disgusting, and because they (the Phillies) will want to limit his bullets.

Pure Speculation: Kyle Kendrick

Without regard for statistical analysis, The Bandanna will predict the performances of each Phillies player for the entire season.  Based entirely on guesswork, and intuition, here are my thoughts on upcoming season for:

Kyle Kendrick DOB: Aug 26 1984 T: Right B: Right H: 6'3" W: 205

Kendrick is 24-14 in parts of 3 years with the Phillies, and I thought he saved the season back in 07.  He's kind of devolved into a sinker/slider guy, but he's athletic and that could work out for him.  Look, I am not saying he's a future ace, but I think he will win the 5th spot.  It makes more sense for the Phillies to throw him out there, rather than Father Time (Moyer).  Plus, and and this will shock you, I think he's going to win some games for the Fightins.

OK, I understand that he has never been lights out...but he's the kind of pitcher who can rack up some wins for a team with a great lineup...I think he will benefit from tons of run support and the good defense this team plays and win 15 games...that's right, 15.  And he is going to keep that ERA right around 3.90 all season.  While clocking around 160 innings...which would make KK a borderline all-star, with 15 wins, a 3.90 era, and 160 innings.  I really think next season is going to be Kendrick's fluky win season, the kind that he doesn't approach again, but keeps him in the bigs for a while.  I think he will benefit from Halladay, and his sinker will destroy worms this year.

Tomorrow: Brad Lidge
